The Villiers Hotel is an old posting house and has been known by various different names. From 1814 it was called The Swan and Castle, prior to that date it was known simply as The Swan, and is mentioned in documents from 1712. It is also contended that it might be The Swanne upon the Hoppe mentioned in a will of 1577.
